Proliferation is of two kinds: first, giving rise to proliferation regarding the real truth; second, giving rise to proliferation regarding worldly matters. Giving rise to grasping at the four propositions regarding the real truth, taking one to be right and the others wrong, is called proliferation. One must know that the intrinsic nature of the mind is free from the four propositions; therefore, when [such views] arise, determined grasping agitates its nature, which is why it is said, 'your minds will be disordered.' Guṇavarman said: 'The various treatises have disparate positions, but the principle of cultivation is not two. Those who grasp have right and wrong; those who comprehend have no dispute.' If proliferation regarding the Dharma is already impermissible, how much less may one engage in worldly joking and mockery? 'Though you have gone forth' means that although in form one has left the worldly, in mind one has not realized the principle, because one is disordered by the two kinds of proliferation.
