「不爾此已至後識不生」者，通。由入涅槃，闕餘受生緣故，後識不生。住意性故，得名為意，如眼已滅未發眼識名眼界故。

"Not so; this has already ... a subsequent consciousness does not arise": the resolution. Because of entering nirvāṇa and lacking the remaining conditions for rebirth, a subsequent consciousness does not arise. Since it abides in the nature of mind, it obtains the name "mind", just as an eye that has already perished and not yet produced visual consciousness is called the eye-element.
