Regarding "This very [matter] is called... [up to] ...matter adjacent to obstruction (aghaniviṣṭa-rūpa)": this relates the alternative names for the cavity-element (ākāśa-dhātu) in the basic treatise. There are two interpretations. This very cavity-element form is called "matter adjacent to obstruction" (aghaniviṣṭa-rūpa). Gha translates as "obstruction". A has two meanings: it means either "extreme" or "absence". If one says "matter adjacent to extreme obstruction", it means the cavity-element form is adjacent to extreme obstruction; being form that is adjacent to agha, it is named "matter adjacent to agha"—this explains it in terms of adjacency. If one says "matter that is adjacent and unobstructed", then it is non-obstructive name-and-form; this unobstructed form is adjacent to the remaining obstructive forms, so the adjacent one is agha, hence it is called aghaniviṣṭa-rūpa. The two masters each rely on one interpretation, and neither meaning contradicts [the other].
