Regarding the passage from "First, Arbuda" up to "beside the great hells": The answer. *Arbuda* is translated here as "blisters": intense cold afflicts their bodies, causing blisters to form on their bodies. *Nirarbuda* is translated here as "bursting blisters": intense cold afflicts their bodies, causing the blisters on their bodies to burst. The next three are named after the distinct sounds emitted from their mouths under the affliction of cold. *Utpala* is translated here as "blue lotus": pressed and pierced by intense cold, their bodies crack and split like blue lotus blossoms. *Padma* is translated here as "red lotus": pressed and pierced by intense cold, their bodies crack and split like red lotus blossoms. *Mahāpadma* is translated here as "great red lotus": pressed and pierced by intense cold, their bodies crack and split like great red lotus blossoms. The sentient beings here are afflicted by intense cold; the first two and the last three are named according to the changes of their bodies, while the middle three are named according to the changes in their vocal sounds. Another explanation: The first two are named according to their bodies, the middle three according to their sounds, and the last three according to their changes in color. Furthermore, the *Nyāyānusāra* says: "The sentient beings here are afflicted by intense cold, and designations and names are established according to the changes of their bodies, vocal sounds, and sores—namely, two, three, and three, in that order (this concludes the text of the treatise)." These eight all lie beneath Jambudvīpa, beside the great hells as described previously. Furthermore, another account in the *Nyāyānusāra* states: "These cold hells are located in an extremely dark place outside the Cakravāḍa mountains that encircle the four continents."
