"The entity of vocal informative karma is speech-sound itself" explains the tenth line [of the verse]. If explained according to the Sarvāstivāda: regarding bodily informative karma, hair, fur, nails, and so forth are collectively called "body"; shapes such as long and short that indicate inner thought are called "informative"; and because information involves activity, it is called "karma." Information arises depending on the body, and this information is called karma; hence it is called "bodily informative karma." Regarding vocal informative karma: "vocal" refers to speech-sound; the sound can indicate inner thought, hence it is called "informative"; and because information involves activity, it is called "karma." Speech is itself information, and information is itself karma; hence it is called "vocal informative karma." Regarding mental karma: "mind" refers to mental consciousness, and karma is intention (cetanā); karma arises from the mind, hence it is called "mental karma." Therefore, the Nyāyānusāra states: "Why is the entity of vocal information itself speech, whereas bodily information and mental karma are not themselves body and mind? Because apart from speech there is no separate sound that can inform, whereas apart from body and mind there are visible matter that informs and the karma of intention; thus bodily karma is designated according to its support, vocal karma in terms of its intrinsic nature, and mental karma following its instigation. Consequently, therein there is no fault of contradiction (end of treatise text)." If explained according to the Sautrāntika: "body" in bodily karma is explained as before; information takes nominal shape as its entity, meaning the continuity of shapes can indicate inner thought, and this information is merely nominally established upon physical form. Karma refers to the intention that moves the body; because karma can initiate information depending on the bodily avenue, it is called bodily informative karma. Regarding vocal informative karma: "vocal" refers to sound, and information takes sound as its entity; meaning the continuity of sounds can indicate inner thought, and this information is merely nominally established upon sound. Karma refers to the karma of intention that produces speech; because it can initiate information depending on the vocal avenue, it is called vocal informative karma. Mental karma is the same as before.
