"The wind of respiration is called life ... the sound of a bell is called killing": within the answer there are two explanations; this is the first master. The wind of inhalation and exhalation is called 'life', which operates dependent on body and mind; if someone is able to cut off the present respiration by means of a sword, staff, or the like, so that it lacks the power to induce respiration of the same category up to its characteristic of arising, failing to continue to arising, at that moment it is called 'killing'. Since it says 'failing to continue', we clearly know that it is killing the future aggregates. Just like extinguishing the light of a lamp or extinguishing the sound of a bell: by the action of the wind or hand blowing on or grasping the present light of a lamp or sound of a bell, they lack the power to induce their own subsequent kind up to its characteristic of arising, failing to continue to arising; at that moment it is called 'extinguishment'.
