[On the text,] "Vocal good paths of karma [...] meaning endearing speech, etc.": Vocal good paths of karma do not subsume a portion of vocal excellent conduct, meaning endearing speech, conciliatory speech, truthful speech, etc.; because they are not coarse and manifest, they are not paths of karma. Question: Why do vocal good paths of karma not mention preparatory and subsequent actions? Explanation: In principle, preparatory and subsequent actions should also be mentioned; the reason they are not mentioned is that their presence can be understood by implication, or they are made evident within the word "etc.", or because endearing speech and the like are light and are not even paths of karma, much less the preparatory and subsequent actions. This is raising the heavy to make evident the light, and omitting them for brevity.
