17.32

「有餘師言至通出不出」者，斷九品善前師終無中出，如見道中斷八諦惑。此非正義。如是說者，通出、不出，如斷修惑。此是正義。

Regarding "Other masters say ... it applies both to emerging and not emerging": In severing the nine grades of wholesome roots, for the former master there is never emerging halfway, just as in the path of vision when abandoning the defilements concerning the eight truths. This is not the correct doctrine. The correct doctrine says: it applies both to emerging and not emerging, just as when abandoning defilements through cultivation. This is the correct doctrine.
