"According to the increase of those sins […] five times heavier suffering" is the answer. It directly explains the fourth line [of the verse]. As one commits progressively more uninterrupted sins, one's body becomes larger and more tender, the instruments of torment progressively increase, and the suffering experienced progressively increases. Among the multiple uninterrupted sins committed, the first is the projecting karma (ākṣepaka-karma), and the subsequent ones are the fulfilling karma (paripūraka-karma). Therefore the Nyāyānusāra says: "For a person who commits multiple uninterrupted sins, only one can project, because the others assist in fulfilling [it]." The Nyāyānusāra also says: "As when committing multiple uninterrupted sins, the first projects and the later fulfill." According to the Sarvāstivāda, no matter how many are committed, they are all called karma to be experienced in the immediately following birth (upapadyavedanīya-karma), and are experienced in the same single kalpa. According to the Tattvasiddhi-śāstra, if one commits one uninterrupted sin, one experiences fruition for one kalpa; if one commits two uninterrupted sins, they are experienced together for two kalpas; and so forth up to five uninterrupted sins being experienced together for five kalpas. The remaining later four kalpas take their name from the first, and are collectively called karma of the next life's retribution. The Tattvasiddhi mostly relies on the Sautrāntika school, [holding that] one karma produces multiple bodies, and also multiple karmas produce a single body. According to the Saṃmatīya school, if one commits one uninterrupted sin, one experiences retribution for one kalpa, and so on up to committing five uninterrupted sins experiencing retribution for five kalpas; among them, the first kalpa is karma of the next life's retribution, and the remaining four kalpas are karma of subsequent retributions (aparaparyāyavedanīya-karma), each separately produced.
