Regarding "Briefly, these should be known [...] their entities are each distinct": this explains the lower three lines. That there are six latent defilements is evident from the text. The verse says "also"—not only does hatred increase according to the object through the power of greed, but the intention is to show that conceit and so forth also increase according to the object through the power of greed. Increasing according to greed is explained later, pointing to the subsequent text. Craving is the basis of all afflictions, and therefore leads to the arising of the others. The others arise from this; in full, one should say greed and hatred, greed and conceit, greed and ignorance, and so forth; this is incidentally clarified via the power of greed. The word "and" shows that the six entities are each distinct, which is a coordinate compound (dvandva) interpretation among the six compound interpretations.
