"Other schools say […] how could they give rise to sensual lust?": this records an alternative view. According to the Mahāvibhāṣā and the Nyāyānusāra, these are the Vibhajyavādins. Among the twelve, eight are abandoned solely by vision: three each for permanence and self—namely, perception, mind, and view; and one each for pleasure and purity—namely, the inversion of view. Four extend across both abandonment by vision and abandonment by cultivation: two each for pleasure and purity—namely, perception and mind. If one claims it were not so, how could an ārya who is not yet free from lust give rise to sensual lust apart from perceptions and thoughts of pleasure and purity? Therefore one knows that perceptions and thoughts of pleasure and purity also extend to abandonment by cultivation.
