「如次先造罪福業故」者，答。先造罪業，後起邪見，即歡行轉，雖造罪業，無苦果故。先造福業，後起邪見，即慼行轉，徒設劬勞，福無果故。

On the reply: “Because of having previously performed bad or meritorious actions, respectively”: Having previously performed bad karma and later generating wrong view, it operates in a joyous mode, [thinking] that although one has performed bad karma, there will be no painful retribution. Having previously performed meritorious karma and later generating wrong view, it operates in a sorrowful mode, [thinking] that one's efforts were in vain and merit bears no fruit.
