23.39

「頂初安足至未來十六」者，此明頂法初、後兩位修念住、行相。初順見道現唯法念，由曾習故而能傍修餘諦念住及餘行相。後位容豫，故四念住隨應現修。

Regarding 'When Summits first establish their footing... future sixteen': this explains the cultivation of the applications of mindfulness and aspects in the two stages of initial and subsequent Summits (mūrdhan). Initially, according with the path of seeing, in the present [moment] there is only mindfulness of dharmas; because of prior habituation, it can laterally cultivate the applications of mindfulness and other aspects of the remaining truths. In the subsequent stage, being at ease, according to circumstances the four applications of mindfulness are cultivated in the present.
