"When Kauṇḍinya and the others [...] the true wheel of the Dharma" is the answer. When the path of seeing arose in Kauṇḍinya and the rest of the five bhikṣus, the deities of the earth and the sky proclaimed aloud: the World-Honoured One has now turned the true wheel of the Dharma. Therefore it is known that the path of seeing is named the wheel of the Dharma. Although the Buddha himself had already turned it previously, the Buddha's intention is to benefit others, so it is spoken of in terms of others. Furthermore, it is said that the Buddha turned it because he extended the hand of one who can preach to turn that wheel. Attributing it to the World-Honoured One causes those who are to be transformed to give rise to respect. Kauṇḍinya is a brāhmaṇa clan name, named after the clan. If one says Ājñātakauṇḍinya, Ājñāta is translated here as 'having understood'; Kauṇḍinya is as explained previously.
