24.39

「復有不行至并前六為七」者，釋第八句，此明現般。復有不行色、無色界，即住於此欲界生中得不還果，既得果已即於此生能般涅槃，名現般涅槃。縱於欲界曾經七生家家、一來、一間等人，至此位中亦名現般。此現般一，并前六種為七不還。

Regarding “Furthermore, there are those who do not fare [...] together with the previous six making seven”: this explains the eighth line, which clarifies attaining parinirvāṇa in the present life (dṛṣṭa-dharma-parinirvāyin). Furthermore, there are those who do not fare to the form or formless realms, but abiding right in this birth in the desire realm attain the fruit of non-return, and having attained the fruit, are able to attain parinirvāṇa right in this birth; they are called those who attain parinirvāṇa in the present life. Even if in the desire realm they have experienced seven births, or are clan-to-clan (kulaṃkula), once-returners (sakṛdāgāmin), one-intervalers (eka-vīcika), and so on, upon reaching this stage they are also called those who attain parinirvāṇa in the present life. This one attaining parinirvāṇa in the present life, together with the previous six kinds, makes seven non-returners.
