On "The masters of foreign lands [...] up to 'explained in full'": This relates alternative views. In this treatise they are called the masters of foreign lands; the *Mahāvibhāṣā* calls them the masters of the western lands. Because they were outside the country of Kaśmīra, they were called "foreign lands"; because they were west of the country of Kaśmīra, they were called "western lands". They say that cultivation has six kinds, adding cultivation by guarding and cultivation by observation to the previous four. Guarding the faculties is called cultivation by guarding; observing the body is called cultivation by observation. The *Mahāvibhāṣā* calls it cultivation by differentiation: the names differ, but the meaning is the same. The former sūtra confirms cultivation by guarding; the latter sūtra confirms cultivation by observation.
