"From 'If one cultivates the diamond-like' up to 'because it is spoken relying on himself'" explains the final two lines. If one cultivates the diamond-like concentration (vajropama-samādhi), one attains the permanent exhaustion of all contaminants. In actual principle, cultivating this diamond-like concentration applies in reliance on all grounds, yet the sūtra speaks only of attaining the exhaustion of contaminants in the fourth dhyāna. The masters of the Vibhāṣā transmit the tradition: 'Because the World-Honoured One spoke relying on himself.' Because the Buddha, the World-Honoured One, attained the exhaustion of contaminants relying solely on the fourth [dhyāna]. Among the six supernormal powers, only two are spoken of because the supernormal power of the divine eye can observe birth and death, and the supernormal power of the exhaustion of contaminants can attain nirvāṇa; hence the sūtra specifically mentions them.
