"Because among the eight... each is at the boundary": this is the answer. First, because they are superior; second, because they are at the boundary, they are singularly called 'realization through the body'. Furthermore, the Mahāvibhāṣā, fascicle 152, says: "Some say that although the pure deliverance grasps pure characteristics, it does not give rise to defilements; because it is extraordinary, the World-Honoured One designated it 'realization through the body'. The deliverance of the cessation of perception and feeling, being without mind, resides in the body, not in the mind. It is produced by the power of the body, not produced by the power of the mind; therefore the World-Honoured One called it realization through the body (fully explained as in that text)." Furthermore, the Nyāyānusāra says: "That only the third and eighth are called 'realization through the body' adduces the two boundaries to illustrate by category the remainder. Among the deliverances of form, the pure is the boundary; among the formless, the attainment of cessation is the boundary. Some say: the third initially, by the force of resolve, grasps pure characteristics in the physical form of the body, and subsequently, gradually casting them away, the deliverance is perfected; among the deliverances that cognize the body, this is the ultimate, and therefore the name 'realization through the body' is singularly established for it. The attainment of cessation is without mind, abiding only in reliance upon the body; therefore the name 'realization through the body' is also established for it, which is done on the basis of excellence. In reality, all are like this, and taking it generally is reasonable. There is a sutra that says: 'What is called realization through the body? It refers to the eight deliverances.' (The analysis of these eight deliverances through various doors is explained in detail as in the Mahāvibhāṣā, fascicle 84)."
