29.81

「越此依餘豈無解脫」者，就此品中大文有二：一廣破異執、二勸學流通。就廣破中，一總破、二別破。此下第一總破中，一問、二答、三徵、四釋、五責、六破。此即問也。問：越此佛法，依餘法中豈無解脫？何故前言應求解脫？此即乘前起問。依前一解判釋三分。就〈破我品〉中，此初兩句名為序分。

[On the lemma]: "Is there really no liberation by relying on other [teachings] beyond this?"
In this chapter, the general text has two parts: first, a broad refutation of deviant positions; second, an exhortation to study and circulate [the text].
Within the broad refutation, there are: 1. a general refutation, and 2. specific refutations.
Below, within the first part, the general refutation, there are: 1. a question, 2. an answer, 3. a demand for reasons, 4. an explanation, 5. an interrogation, and 6. a refutation. This is the question.
The question asks: Beyond this Buddha-Dharma, relying on other teachings, is there really no liberation? Why was it said earlier that one should seek liberation? This question arises directly from the preceding text. According to the previous explanation dividing the text into three sections, within the "Chapter on the Refutation of the Self", these initial two sentences constitute the introductory section.
