29.84

「虛妄我執至無容解脫」者，此即釋也。虛妄我執所迷亂故。謂此佛法外勝論師等所執我，非即於五蘊相續法上假立為我，別執有真實離蘊我故。由此橫計我執勢力為根本故，諸煩惱生。由煩惱生，感異熟果，於三有中輪迴不息，故依外法無容解脫。

[On the lemma]: "Because of being deluded by the false grasping at a self … there is no possibility of liberation."
This is the explanation. It is because of being deluded by the false grasping at a self. That is to say, the self grasped by those outside this Buddha-Dharma, such as the Vaiśeṣikas, is not conceptually designated as a self upon the continuum of the five skandhas; rather, they separately grasp a real self apart from the skandhas. Because the force of this wrongly imagined grasping at a self serves as the root, all defilements arise. With the arising of defilements, they induce vipāka fruits, reincarnating incessantly within the three realms of existence. Therefore, relying on external teachings, there is no possibility of liberation.
