"Other masters say... [up to] such is the tradition": this presents the view of other masters. The five feelings, beginning with pleasure, are not only sovereign regarding defilement, but are also sovereign regarding purification, as the sūtra states: "Because of ease, the mind attains samādhi; because of revulsion toward suffering, one brings about the bliss of nirvāṇa." Faith entails seeking renunciation with joy. "Six" refers to the six sense objects, because joy, grief, and equanimity take the six sense objects as their referents. "Renunciation" refers to nirvāṇa; wholesome joy, grief, and equanimity serve as bases for renunciation, hence they are called "bases of renunciation." Thus the treatise says below: "Bases of renunciation are the wholesome feelings." Up to this point, the faculties' sovereignty has been explained; such is the tradition of the masters of the Vibhāṣā.
