Regarding 'The commentary says... up to: establishing the name "perfection"': this explains the upper two lines. The word 'severed' distinguishes from 'in the process of severing', because at the time of severing one still possesses good [faculties]. That they possess at minimum eight faculties is based on the gradual relinquishment of life, hence body faculty alone. As an incidental point, sensation is explained. Being able to experience is called sensation, naming it from its function; the nature of experiencing is called sensation, naming it from its intrinsic essence. Just as a mirror is given the name 'perfection' because of its perfection nature, it is also named from its intrinsic essence.
