3.68

「謂為利益至二種堪能」者，答。一為利益安樂他故，二為聖教久住世故。觀知自身壽行將盡，觀他無此二種堪能，故留壽行。

"Namely, for the benefit [...] two kinds of capability": the answer. First, to benefit and bring ease to others; second, so that the noble teachings may long abide in the world. Observing and knowing that one's own formations of life are about to end, and observing that others lack these two kinds of capability, one retains the formations of life.
