「他與我執至如是習故」者，論主答。他五蘊身與自我執相不相屬故。謂若自身及與自心與我執相屬，此我執起緣彼自蘊，非餘他蘊。無始時來如是習故，緣自計我，非緣他計。

"Because another's and one's own grasping at a self [...] because of such conditioning": this is the master of the treatise answering. Because the body of another's five aggregates does not belong to one's own grasping at a self. That is, if one's own body and one's own mind belong to the grasping at a self, this grasping at a self arises taking those aggregates of one's own as its object, and not the other aggregates of another. Because from beginningless time it has been conditioned in this way, it takes one's own [aggregates] as object and posits a self, not taking another's as object and positing a self.
