「若爾尋伺至體非凝釋」者，論主約喻難。如水是凝因、日是釋因，體非凝、釋。亦應尋是麁因、伺是細因，非麁、細體。

Regarding the passage from "If so, vitarka and vicāra" up to "their substances are not congealing and melting": The author of the śāstra objects based on the analogy. Just as water is the cause of congealing and the sun is the cause of melting, yet their substances are not congealing and melting themselves, so too vitarka would be the cause of grossness and vicāra the cause of subtlety, rather than being the substances of grossness and subtlety.
