「已辨二定至能持煗及識」者，此下大文第五解命根。上句會名，下句用證。命是活義，壽是期限義。活即是命，故知此命即壽異名。

On [the text reading]: "Having distinguished the two absorptions ... able to sustain warmth and consciousness": Below this is the fifth major section of the text, explaining the life faculty. The first line equates the terms, and the second line proves it by its function. 'Life' (ming) has the meaning of living; 'lifespan' (shou) has the meaning of a duration. Living is precisely life; hence we know that this 'life' is another name for 'lifespan'.
