「且因六種」者，此下第二正辨體性。就中。一明六因。二明四緣。就明六因中，一正明因體、二明因得果、三明法從因生。就正明因體中，一總標名、二別顯體、三世分別。此下第一總標名也。故先答言且因六種。

"First, causes are of six kinds:" below this is the second part, directly distinguishing their essential natures. In this: first, clarifying the six causes; second, clarifying the four conditions. Under clarifying the six causes: first, directly clarifying the essence of the causes; second, clarifying the causes obtaining their fruits; third, clarifying that phenomena arise from causes. Under directly clarifying the essence of the causes: first, generally presenting the names; second, specifically revealing their essences; third, distinguishing the three periods of time. Below this is the first, generally presenting the names. Thus it first answers by stating that causes are of six kinds.
