As for "Such three kinds … cultivate mindfulness and the other factors of awakening": from here on is the second [part], recounting different theories. There are three masters in all. This is the first theory: three enter, three emerge. If one says three enter, it accords with the sūtra which says that practicing in conjunction with the contemplation of the foul, one cultivates mindfulness and the other anāsrava factors of awakening. Here, the word "conjunction" (sahabhāva) expresses the meaning of "immediately following"—prior and posterior being conjoint. This passage merely adduces proof that attention through resolute determination can enter the noble path. If with respect to the path of seeing, one enters solely by [attention to] common characteristics, while emerging extends to three kinds. If in the path of cultivation and the path of the aśaikṣa, both entering and emerging extend to the three.
