Regarding [the text stating], "In order to summarize the previous meaning... because it was not previously possessed": this is the third part, restating the previous meaning in verse. In order to summarize the distinctions among the minds acquired in the previous meaning, he speaks another verse. First, "due to taking birth" refers to falling back between realms. Second, "due to entering concentration" refers to the form-realm wholesome mind and the śaikṣa mind. Third, "due to abandoning defilement" refers to abandoning the defilements of the desire and form realms. Fourth, "due to falling back" refers to when one falls back upon producing defilements. Fifth, "at the stage of reconnecting wholesomeness" refers to when doubt reconnects the roots of wholesomeness. Among these five, the first and the last two are exclusively defiled minds; the middle two—entering concentration and abandoning defilement—are exclusively wholesome minds. The distinctions of acquired minds resulting from these five stages are fully explained as above. Here, "acquired" means that, not having been previously possessed, it is now possessed.
