"Excepting the preceding three kinds […] combined, they form the fourth": this explains that the remaining births are unknowing at the three times. Furthermore, the Mahāvibhāṣā, fascicle 172, states: "Some say: The fourth entering the womb refers to the bodhisattva; the third entering the womb refers to the pratyekabuddha; the second entering the womb refers to the wheel-turning monarch; the first entering the womb refers to other sentient beings. Some say: The fourth entering the womb refers to the bodhisattva; the third entering the womb refers to the pratyekabuddha; the second entering the womb refers to a śrāvaka of the pāramitās; the first entering the womb refers to other sentient beings. Some say: The fourth entering the womb refers to the bodhisattva; the third entering the womb refers to the pratyekabuddha; the second entering the womb refers to stream-enterers and once-returners; the first entering the womb refers to other sentient beings." As is extensively explained there. It also states: "Furthermore, these four kinds of entering the womb all refer to the bodhisattva. Among them, some say: The fourth entering the womb is the bodhisattva of the third asaṃkhyeya; the third entering the womb is the bodhisattva of the second asaṃkhyeya; the second entering the womb is the bodhisattva of the first asaṃkhyeya; the first entering the womb is the bodhisattva prior to this." There are further explanations that are not the orthodox doctrine, which the evaluator himself refutes, as is extensively explained there.
