9.8

「欲中有量至而根明利」者，上言似本，此言顯總，今別顯形。欲界中有量雖如小兒年五、六歲，而根明利。若應生人趣，如五、六歲。餘趣准知。恐疑身小，何能起惑？而根明利，能於父母生其愛、恚。又《正理》二十四云「有餘師說：欲界中有皆如本有盛年時量。」

Regarding the passage: "The size of the intermediate state of the desire realm... yet its sense faculties are clear and sharp": Above, it was said that it resembles the basic existence, which was a general statement; now its form is specifically shown. Although the intermediate state of the desire realm is the size of a child of five or six years, its sense faculties are clear and sharp. If it is to be born into the human realm, it is like a child of five or six years. The other realms may be understood accordingly. Lest one wonder how such a small body could give rise to defilements, its sense faculties are clear and sharp, and it can give rise to attachment and hatred toward the parents. Moreover, Nyāyānusāra 24 states: "Other masters say that the intermediate states of the desire realm are all of the size of the basic existence in its prime."
