The treatise says: "Having spoken of the five faculties, next the five sense objects will be spoken of"; the third single verse clarifies the five sense objects. In the verse, taste precedes odor; the Nyāyānusāra states: "Stating them out of order is to show that the arising of the consciousnesses of those objects is not fixed." Since the treatise explains it thus, we know that placing odor after taste was not done for the sake of the metre.
