論「二中眼用至後聞聲故」，第四遠、速故先說。文中有二：一眼、耳同離中知，眼遠、速故，先耳說。二鼻、舌同合中知，鼻速故，先舌說。此第一明眼先說也。

On the Śāstra's statement, "Between the two, the eye's function ... because sound is heard afterward": this is the fourth [reason], that they are stated first because they operate at a distance and rapidly. Within the text there are two [points]: first, though both the eye and ear cognize from a distance, because the eye operates at a greater distance and more rapidly, it is stated before the ear; second, though both the nose and tongue cognize in contact, because the nose operates more rapidly, it is stated before the tongue. This first [part] explains why the eye is stated first.
