The treatise says, "Why is that? Up to: because they do not increase in accordance." This is the third, explaining the meaning of uncontaminated. It is because the various contaminants such as attachment do not increase in accordance with the noble truth of the path and the unconditioned dharmas. Here, the truths of the path and cessation are taken as objects but do not increase [contaminants], while space and non-analytical cessation are neither taken as objects nor do they increase [them]. The Nyāyānusāra, on uncontaminated dharmas, self-determines: "The Dārṣṭāntika masters, contrary to principle and opposing the sūtras, falsely make this claim: all form and so forth within the faultless bodies of the category of non-sentient beings are called uncontaminated dharmas. This is definitely not so, because it contradicts the sūtras. As the sūtra states: With respect to all forms past, future, and present, there arises and grows manifest lust, or hatred, or delusion, and so forth, up to speaking broadly of all form and so forth within the faultless bodies of the category of non-sentient beings. Since they can generate and increase lust and so forth in sentient beings, how could they be uncontaminated? Why is that? Because Anupama, Aṅgulimāla, Uruvilvā-Kāśyapa, and others generated and grew contaminants such as lust, hatred, and delusion taking the World-Honoured One's body as an object. Their position asserts that the word 'in' [or 'with respect to'] is not a locative of cognitive object, but a locative of basis, like oil in sesame seeds: being the basis of the contaminants, it is therefore called contaminated. This is unreasonable, because manifest [defilements] are said to arise with respect to the past and future. Present lust and so forth have never arisen based upon the past and future; therefore, their position is definitely not sound, up to broad explanations. Furthermore, all sounds would have to be uncontaminated, because sound is definitely not the basis of contaminants. One should not assert that sound is definitely uncontaminated, because the sūtra determines that the intrinsic nature of sound is defiled. And further, visible forms such as excrement, filth, alcohol, and the like, not being the basis of contaminants, would all have to be uncontaminated, up to broad explanations." It also says: "Furthermore, for the Sautrāntikas (Dārṣṭāntikas), the eyes and so forth in the body of an ordinary worldling would also have to not be the basis of contaminants, because they hold that the five consciousnesses are undefiled."
