10.147

論「非於此地至是意近行」，論主答也。唯染污受可意相牽數行境界，名意近行。善、無記者不能引意相牽數行境故，非意近行。

[On the Śāstra's statement:] 'It is not that in this stage [up to] are mental investigations', the author of the Śāstra answers. Only defiled feelings that can draw the mind to frequently range over cognitive objects are called mental investigations. Wholesome and indeterminate feelings cannot lead the mind to be drawn to frequently range over objects, hence they are not mental investigations.
