The Commentary states, "From 'Depending on experiencing as born' up to 'are distinguished into three kinds,'" explaining the reason for dividing them into three. "As born" and so forth means mastering the experience according with objects naturally present or otherwise. The Vibhāṣā, fascicle 173, says: "Question: Why are humans and the first four classes of gods grouped together as birth with desire, while the latter two classes of gods are established separately? Answer: In humans and the first four classes of gods, the afflictions are coarse, whereas in the latter two classes of gods, the afflictions are subtle. Some say: Humans and the first four classes of gods alike delight in enjoying objects that arise naturally, and therefore are grouped together as one; the fifth and sixth classes of gods solely delight in enjoying objects created by themselves or others, and therefore are each established separately."
