The treatise says: "If these two were distinct in essence... therefore they are not distinct in essence," the author of the treatise refutes their existing as distinct essences. The text has three levels, and this is the first. If it were claimed that the subtle atoms of the earth element are substance and visible form is subsumed under quality, and that the two are distinct in essence, why is it that when carefully observing them together, one does not see a separate visible form apart from the earth and so forth?
