The treatise says: "Just as in rows... because they are not recognized," this adduces an analogy. Due to there being two rows—one row of pots and one row of jars—having the same pigeon-colored hue: by observing the difference in shape between pots and jars, they are recognized as different. If one does not observe the shapes and attends solely to the pigeon-colored hue, then one cannot recognize that the two rows are different. Wool, cotton cloth, and safflower are also like this: after being burned, because their colors are the same, they cannot be recognized as distinct; their shapes are also without difference, hence they are not recognized as distinct. If their shapes differed, they could be recognized as distinct.
