論「若餘方便至久修多苦行」，此重問。若以無上大菩提果甚難得故，發長時願修多苦行。既有六十劫或三生方便，亦得涅槃出離於苦，何用為菩提久修多苦行？
On the Śāstra's text, "If through other expedients... cultivate many austerities for so long": This is a repeated question. If it is because the fruit of unexcelled great bodhi is extremely difficult to attain that one makes vows of long duration and cultivates many austerities, yet since there are expedients taking sixty kalpas or three lifetimes that also attain nirvāṇa and escape from suffering, why cultivate many austerities for so long for the sake of bodhi?
