14.122

論「若不如斯至不得律儀」，總釋也。一若不具足、二若不在師下床、三若不從師受、四若不隨師教受、五若不具八支、六若不離嚴飾、七不盡晝夜，七中隨闕一緣不得律儀，但得處中妙行。《正理論》云「然為令招可愛果故，亦應為受。」廣如《婆沙》二十三說。

The commentary states: "If it is not like this [...] one does not obtain the saṃvara", which is an overall explanation. [Namely:] first, if it is incomplete; second, if one is not on a seat lower than the master; third, if it is not received from a master; fourth, if it is not received in accordance with the master's instruction; fifth, if it lacks the eight factors; sixth, if one does not abandon adornments; seventh, if it does not span the entire day and night. If any single condition among these seven is lacking, one does not obtain the saṃvara, but merely obtains intermediate sublime conduct. The Nyāyānusāra states: "However, in order to cause the gathering of desirable results, one should also administer them to him." This is explained extensively as in Vibhāṣā 23.
