論「言近住者至近盡壽戒住」，釋名也。兩釋無評。《正理論》中兩說如前，又云「有說此戒近時而住（解云：此時促名為近住。以是《婆沙》第三家釋也）。」

The commentary states: "As for the term upavāsa [...] abiding close to the lifelong precepts", which explains the name. There is no preference given between the two explanations. In the Nyāyānusāra, the two explanations are as before, and it also states: "Some say: this precept abides for a proximate [short] time (Explanation: this time is brief, hence it is called upavāsa [‘dwelling near’]. This is the explanation of the third school in the Vibhāṣā)."
