論「設說亦非至已發五戒」，縱有部餘經說近事相，亦不明了。誰能准此不明了文，便信前時已發五戒？此破有部先時發戒。

On the Śāstra's phrase: "Even if it did say so, it is still not ... up to ... already having generated the five precepts:" Even granting that other sūtras of the Sarvāstivāda describe the marks of an upāsaka, it is still not clear. Who could rely on such an unclear text to believe that previously the five precepts were already generated? This refutes the Sarvāstivāda's claim of generating the precepts beforehand.
