From the treatise's "It should be known that in this way..." to "...projected by karma," this explains that the experience across the eleven stages performed in the intermediate existence is designated as present karma. Question: The determinate karma of the intermediate existence is only experienced in the present life; when is the indeterminate karma of the intermediate existence experienced? Answer: It may also be experienced in other bodies. The Nyāyānusāra says: "Homology of category refers to categories such as humans, not to destinies or births; because in terms of destinies and births, the homologies of intermediate existence and birth existence are different. The eleven kinds of indeterminate karma may be experienced in the eleven stages of this body, or in the eleven stages of other bodies (thus far the treatise text)." Question: Why does the intermediate existence only perform karma experienced in the present and not perform the others? Answer: One explanation is that it can also perform the others; here it merely intends to clarify that the eleven kinds of karma are experienced in the present, and therefore does not mention the others. A second explanation is that within the intermediate existence one only seeks the body of this birth existence and does not seek other bodies; therefore, it only performs karma of the present life and does not perform [karma of the next] life or subsequent [lives]. Since the intermediate existence of the form realm has virtuous thoughts, it is known that it also performs karma experienced in the present life; however, having no various stages, it is omitted and not discussed. Question: When this treatise says "intermediate and birth [existences share] a single homology," what homology is this? If it were the homology of the four modes of birth, the intermediate existence is apparitional, while the birth existence is from a womb, etc. If it were the homology of the five destinies, the intermediate existence is not a destiny. If it were the homology of category, intermediate and birth are distinct categories. Now in saying 'single', what is meant? Answer: Because they are projected by a single karma, the homology is single; it does not mean that the homology of birth, destiny, or category is single.
