15.85

論「以世尊說至四污道沙門」，有部引文證也。《婆沙》六十六解云「勝道謂佛，自能覺故。一切獨覺應知亦爾。示道，謂身子等。命道，謂居學位。污道者，謂犯重之人（言准陀者，舊云純陀，此云稚小）。」

On the text "Because the World-Honoured One spoke of … the fourth, the śramaṇa who defiles the path": the Vaibhāṣika cites textual proof. Fascicle 66 of the Vibhāṣā explains: "'Victor over the path' refers to the Buddha, because he awakened by himself; one should know that all pratyekabuddhas are also like this. 'Shower of the path' refers to Śāriputra and the like. 'One who lives by the path' refers to those dwelling in the stage of training. 'Defiler of the path' refers to those who have committed grave offenses (Cunda was previously translated as Chunda, which means 'youth')."
