16.170

「論曰至流至此中」，釋壞他語相。一染心欲壞他、二解義、三不誤。若他壞、不壞，俱成壞他語。若他不壞不成壞他語，應無壞聖。正領解時，壞與不壞此成業道。

"The Śāstra says... flows into this context": Explaining the characteristic of speech that divides others (pāruṣya / paiśunya, malicious speech). First, a defiled mind wishing to divide others; second, [the other] understands the meaning; third, without error. Whether the others are divided or not divided, it both constitutes speech that divides others. If it did not constitute speech that divides others when the other is not divided, there would be no dividing the noble ones. At the precise moment of comprehension, whether divided or not, this constitutes a path of karma.
