17.14

論「若爾何緣至最初所除」，難也。若謂唯邪見斷善根者，即違本論「云何上品不善根？謂能斷善根者，不善根體，謂貪、瞋、癡。」邪見非不善根，如何說能斷善根？

On the Śāstra's stating: "If so, for what reason [...] is eliminated first?", this is an objection. If one claims that wrong view alone severs wholesome roots, this contradicts the root treatise: "What are the superior unwholesome roots? They refer to those that can sever wholesome roots; the intrinsic nature of unwholesome roots refers to covetousness, ill will, and delusion." Wrong view is not an unwholesome root; how can it be said to sever wholesome roots?
