17.23

論「謂定撥無至彼果異熟」，答也。《正理論》云「此斷善根何因何位？謂有一類先成暴惡意樂隨眠，後逢惡友緣力所資，轉復增盛，故善根減、不善根增。後起撥因撥果邪見，令一切善皆悉隱沒，由此相續離善而住，此因此位斷諸善根。」

On the Śāstra's stating: "It refers to definitively repudiating [...] their fruition and vipāka", this is the answer. The Nyāyānusāra states: "By what cause and in what state are these wholesome roots severed? It refers to a type of person who has previously developed violent, evil inclinations and latencies (anuśaya), and later, aided by the reinforcing power of bad companions, these become increasingly intense, so that wholesome roots diminish and unwholesome roots increase. Later, generating the wrong view that repudiates cause and repudiates fruition, all wholesome roots are caused to disappear completely; thereby the mental continuum remains devoid of the wholesome. Through this cause and in this state, all wholesome roots are severed."
