Regarding the Śāstra's "What are the eight gifts?..." down to "...and practices wise giving": the names of the eight are listed, and then "adorning the mind" is explained. The *Nyāyānusāra* says: "'To adorn the mind' means practicing wise giving in order to arouse the noble wealth of faith and so forth. 'To assist the mind' means practicing wise giving wishing to eliminate the defilement of avarice. 'To assist yoga' means practicing wise giving seeking the joy of samādhi as an indirect generative cause. That is, due to giving, one attains freedom from remorse, progressing in turn up to one-pointedness of mind. 'To attain the supreme meaning' means attaining nirvāṇa, because from initially giving up wealth, one progressively is able to relinquish everything throughout saṃsāra. Furthermore, practicing wise giving is the cause of superior rebirth, and based on this, one can arouse the qualities that realize nirvāṇa."
