18.70

論「唯現對佛至非聞修類」，明境及慧。修佛相故，對佛方成。勝故非聞及生得慧，散故非修。

The Śāstra states: "Only directly facing a Buddha [...] not belonging to the categories of hearing or cultivation." This clarifies the object and wisdom. Because one cultivates the marks of a Buddha, it is only accomplished directly facing a Buddha. Because it is superior, it is not the wisdom resulting from hearing or born of acquisition; because it is distracted [mental state], it is not the wisdom resulting from cultivation.
