論「如彼經言至已過去故」，識見家引例也。雖有於彼說眼見，經云意能識法，是意識識，非是根能識法，已過去故。眼能見色，故知非眼。

The *Śāstra* states: "Just as that sūtra says... because it has already passed." The proponent of 'consciousness sees' cites an analogy: "Although there is a statement there saying that the eye sees, a sūtra says that the mind (*manas*) can cognize dharmas; it is mental consciousness that cognizes, not the faculty that can cognize dharmas, because [the faculty] has already passed away. The eye can see form; therefore one knows it is not the eye."
